Al Sylvester, an Antarctic explorer<< Click to return to the previous page... Today, Ash Class were lucky enough to have a visit from Al Sylvester, an Antarctic explorer, who shared his experiences of trekking to the South Pole and the importance of trust, honesty, teamwork and perseverance on such a mission. The children were fascinated to learn about how to survive and overcome some of the difficulties of living in such a hostile but beautiful environment. Al also brough some of his Antarctic kit to show us the importance of layers to conserve body heat and it became impossible to identify who was actually underneath all those layers. It was a great morning and I am sure that the children enjoyed it as much as I did.
